I wrote this book from a real need. While teaching coding voluntarily at my children’s school, I realised there was no book that introduces six-year-olds to coding concepts they can build on as they grow. I understand that pure coding may not be the best starting point for young children, but these concepts will ease them into the subject as they get older.
The book uses familiar themes and the power of storytelling. It follows Yagazie, who creates a robot called Yago to solve problems in his town; together with his friends.
I worked on this book for more than three years, testing it in schools to make sure it is fit for purpose and delivers on its promise. I designed it so a child does not need another book to grasp the core coding concepts.
I have taught coding to children for more than two decades and have honed the craft. I created this book to help children and adults build problem solving skills, think logically, and approach programming with confidence.
This is the first in a series. The other books will build on these foundations to help every child grow into a confident young coder. I want to see an African continent that is technologically advanced—able to solve her own problems with her own technology.
